When it comes to grooming an individual in this case a young basketball player, the foundation has to be a solid platform that you can stand on and speak to these kids and say this is the way you build yourself. If you build yourself this way and have character you get to play basketball. Winning would then take care of itself, because young men and women with character, discipline and commitment end up winning in life as well as in basketball. When you flip it and the foundation of what you’re doing is basketball and you hope that all of the other stuff follows, that’s basically saying you think basketball builds character which it does not. Basketball reveals character.
